Welcome to the 2010 4th Annual Sunshine Cup
The 2010 4th Annual Sunshine Cup is a Summer tournament event that is part of the Florida United Lacrosse Cup series.  Sponsored by the Tampa Bay Fire, the Sunshine Cup has established a reputation as a well-organized, safe, and competitive tournament with high-level competition drawn from a wide regional and national base.  This year's  event will be held on June 26-27, 2010 in Auburndale, FL at the Lake Myrtle Sports complex.  Over 45 teams representing their respective elite programs, high schools, and middle schools will be participating in many divisions ranging from U-11 through U-19.  Teams from across the South and neighboring states will be attending this year's event.

About the Tampa Bay Fire
Since the club's founding in 2006, the Tampa Bay Fire has established a national reputation as one of the premier elite lacrosse clubs in the South.  From its inception, the objective was to assist elite-level Tampa Bay area high school and middle school lacrosse players build their lacrosse skills and capabilities through high-level coaching in a comprehensive player development system.  As the only elite lacrosse team serving the West Florida region, the Tampa Bay Fire provides a challenging learning environment for elite lacrosse players that accelerates skills development, game knowledge, field sense, and attitudes about competition and sportsmanship.  Tampa Bay Fire players skills are showcased at select competitive tournaments and national college recruiting events.  The club has helped place dozens of it's players in college lacrosse programs and is the home for the first High School All-Americans in West Florida!

The Tampa Bay area, like the sport of lacrosse, has a rich history steeped in the lore of the Native American Indian.  The Calusa Indian tribe, indigenous to the region, used the word "Tampa", meaning "sticks of fire" in their native tongue, to describe the high concentration of lightning strikes that the region historically received every year.  The Calusa term was also interpreted by other historians to mean "the place to gather sticks".

Both interpretations uniquely interconnect the shared Native American history of the Tampa Bay region, the sport of lacrosse, and the establishment of the Tampa Bay Fire, reflecting the values and principles behind our team name.  The term also reinforces the essence, spirit, and style of our team philosophy, while encouraging the distinct personal characteristics of players chosen to compete for the Gold, Silver, Red, White, Black and Select teams.
