Shannon McHale

Colorado Mesa University Co-Directors of Athletics Kris Mort and Bryan Rooks announced the hiring of Shannon McHale as the new women's lacrosse head coach in June 2020.


McHale comes to Colorado Mesa after spending the last three seasons as an assistant coach at perennial powerhouse Florida Southern. During her time with the Mocs, she helped the squad finish as the national runner-up, had six players earn IWLCA all-America honors, and won 18-straight games en route to the national title game.


Shannon made head coaching stops at Ithaca College, St. John Fisher College, and SUNY Potsdam and compiled a combined record of 165-142 prior to moving on to Florida Southern. She led St. John Fisher to two NCAA Tournaments and led them to a school record 14 wins in 2007. She was named the Empire 8 Coach of the Year twice (once at St. John Fisher and once at Ithaca) and twice was a part of the Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year (2013 and 2014).


McHale is a 1992 graduate of SUNY Brockport where she was a three-year letterwinner in soccer where she was first-team all-state in 1990. She was the SUNYAC West Division Player of the Year in 1990 and was a first-team all-SUNYAC performer in 1989. She was inducted into the institution's Hall of Fame in 1997.


She earned her master's degree in exercise and sport sciences and sport psychology from Ithaca in 2005.
