Kevin Siedlecki

SCSU Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach Kevin Siedlecki enters his fifth year as the Owls’ head coach in 2023.

Kevin Siedlecki was named the fourth head coach in Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse history on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019.

Siedlecki is no stranger to Southern Connecticut as he served as an Owls’ assistant coach the last three seasons prior to being hired. He has monitored the program since the departure of the program’s coaching staff in that Fall semester.

With the return of sports at Southern for the 2021 season, Siedlecki navigated the Owls through a strenuous season, but featured historic accomplishments throughout the year. Southern caused 10.22 turnovers per game, which ranked 26th nationally and sixth in the Northeast 10. Southern also featured a balanced offensive attack, with four players recording at least 15 points during the nine game season. The Owls took victories on the road against American International in the season opener and against Saint Rose in the first matchup ever between the two programs. Southern came back to win against Saint Rose with four unanswered goals in the final 10 minutes. Southern also played in the NE10 Conference Tournament for the first time, as they were the No. 5 seed in the Southwest Division and were matched up with No. 4 seed New Haven. After the season, Morgan Chase received Third-Team All-NE10 honors and Jettke Gray was named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team. Chase became the third player in program history to be named to the NE10's First, Second, or Third-Team, and received the honor after she shifted to the defensive side of the ball for the first time in her career. Gray, a transfer from Ithaca College, became the eighth player in program history to be named to the All-Rookie team.

The Owls were on pace for one of their best seasons in recent years during the 2020 season before the suspension of sports because of COVID-19. Southern sat 2-1 over their first three games, and scored their most goals, 50, and allowed their fewest goals. 22, over their first three games in program history. After facing two nationally ranked top 15 games before the season’s cancellation, the Owls ended with a positive goal differential. Steph Seymour recorded 14 draw controls against Dominican to tie the single-game program record, while Bayleigh Takacs recorded nine points against Post to tie the single-game program. After five games, the Owls had the Northeast 10’s Conference leader in points, draw controls, and saves while leading the conference as a team in draw controls, caused turnovers, and saves and finishing top five in goals scored and assists.

Siedlecki’s first season as head coach saw the Owls recognized by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) as a 2019 Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad while five student-athletes were placed on the IWLCA Zap Sports Division II Academic Honor Roll. Karlie Rowe also received Northeast 10 All-Rookie Team honors after scoring 35 goals, the most by a Southern freshman since 2015. The Owls also improved on the defensive end as compared to the 2018 season, allowing fewer goals, shots per game, and free position shots.

In addition to his responsibilities with the Owls since 2016, Siedlecki was the head varsity girl’s lacrosse coach at Daniel Hand High School in Madison, Conn. since 2009. At Hand, Siedlecki compiled a career record of 157-51 and also earned CIAC Class M Coach of the Year honors in 2015 and 2018 as well as Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC) Coach of the Year honors in 2015 and New Haven Register Coach of the Year honors in 2011.

Siedlecki guided Hand to the last four SCC Tournament Championships in addition to titles in 2009 and 2010, while also capturing SCC Regular-Season Championships in 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2018. Hand also finished as CIAC Class M Runner-ups in 2011, 2015 and 2018 and Semifinalists in 2017 and 2018. Siedlecki also coached five All-Americans that went on to play collegiately.

Siedlecki graduated from Union College with bachelor’s degrees in music and English in 2008. He then completed his master’s degree in English at Southern Connecticut in 2014 and his is currently working towards a certificate of advanced graduate studies in educational leadership at the University of New England.

This site helped me establish communications with several colleges. The ability to contact colleges that interested me and research information about them was very helpful.
