Lisa Miller

Head Coach Lisa Miller enters her fourth season as head coach of the River Hawk women's lacrosse program. She was announced as the second head coach in program history on June 28, 2019.


The River Hawks finished the 2022 season with a 4-13 overall record and a 1-5 record in conference play. During the season, Coach Miller earned her 200th career win as she led the River Hawks to their first win in program history over conference opponent Binghamton.


Miller most recently served as Head Coach of the Harvard Women's Lacrosse program from 2007 to 2018. Prior to Harvard, Miller was the Head Coach of the startup Syracuse women's program (1996-2007).


She has posted a 191-139 career coaching record (.579) in 21 seasons as an NCAA head coach. She guided the Crimson to 85 wins in 11 seasons at Harvard and led the team to an appearance in the Ivy League Championship Game in 2011. While at Syracuse, she led the Orange to six NCAA tournament appearances, including a berth in the 2007 Elite Eight. Miller, who was the 2007 Big East Coach of the Year, posted a 106-52 record (.671) in 10 seasons with the Orange.


Miller was named the Canadian National Team head coach in January of 2007 after serving as an assistant coach for the Canadian team in 2000-01. She began a term as a member of the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Committee in September of 2007 and has previously served on the Tewaaraton Trophy Selection Committee (2004-06) and as chair of the All-America Committee (1995-98).


Prior to taking over at Syracuse, Miller got her first taste of the Ivy League as an assistant coach at Brown from 1994-96. Following her third and final season, in which she helped Brown go 15-4 and reach No. 15 in the national rankings, Miller left to start the Syracuse program.


Miller began her coaching career here in Massachusetts. She served first as an assistant coach, then as associate head coach at Wheaton from 1991-94 after getting her start as head coach of girls' lacrosse and field hockey at Thayer Academy in Braintree in 1988-89.


Miller played four seasons at William & Mary (1984-87) and was captain of her team, the 1987 Outstanding Female Senior Athlete and an All-America selection. She graduated in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in economics. She ranks tied for eighth on the William & Mary all-time goals list with 118 and 11th on its career points list with 145.


Miller was also a member of the U.S. National Team as a senior and completed her playing career as an alternate on the 1989 World Cup squad. In 2004, Miller became only the third women's lacrosse player to be inducted into the William & Mary Athletics Hall of Fame.

James Rippey

Rippey enters his second year at UMass Lowell heading into the 2023 season. Joining the River Hawks in August 2021 after a nine-year tenure at the helm of the Framingham State women’s lacrosse team, Rippey brings a wealth of knowledge to the Mill City. Entrusted with rebuilding the Ram’s women’s lacrosse program, Rippey helped Framingham State develop steadily through the years, culminating in the team’s first MASCAC Regular Season Championship in 2019.


After making their first-ever MASCAC Championship game appearance, Rippey guided the 2019 squad to a perfect 7-0 record in MASCAC play to earn the regular-season title as well as their second-consecutive appearance in the MASCAC Championship Finals.


Despite the 2020 campaign being shortened due to COVID-19, Rippey led the Rams to an 8-2 record in 2021 to earn a share of the MASCAC Regular Season Title and a trip to the MASCAC title game for the third straight year. Under his tutelage, the Rams finished the 2021 campaign ranked No. 1 in the North in the NCAA Regional Rankings and finished second in New England in DIII in assists.


In addition to his experience with Framingham State, Rippey also worked with the Bay State Bullets club lacrosse program based in Framingham.


Before joining the Rams, Rippey spent 13 seasons coaching high school sports around the Boston area. A graduate of Boston College with degrees in mathematics and history, Rippey obtained a master’s degree in teaching from Northeastern University in 2012.


In addition to his time with the women’s lacrosse program, Rippey also served as an assistant football coach and the Intramurals Coordinator at Framingham State.

Aaron Gray

Aaron Gray was named assistant coach for the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team in November 2022 after spending the 2022 season as a volunteer assistant for the University of Colorado Women's Lacrosse team. While there, Gray was involved in planning practices, developing game strategy, recruiting prospective student-athletes, and serving as the team's video coordinator.


Prior to his time at Colorado, Gray was both a varsity and JV lacrosse coach for the Sacramento Lacrosse Club in 2019. Having the responsibility of coaching both teams, Gray spent a lot of time coordinating drills for various skills levels, from beginner to college committed players, while also implementing new concepts and communication skills. He also met with all levels of the club (from youth up to varsity, boys and girls) to coordinate the overall vision of the club.


Before he joined Sacramento in 2019, Gray spent six years in his first stint at the University of Colorado, however this time was as a defensive coordinator for the Men's Lacrosse team. Primarily, Gray worked on and built strategy, concept, and mentality of the defensive unit. Like his time with the women's program, he also recruited nationally to ensure consistent high-level talent. During this time was also where he learned the indispensable value of watching hours of film alone, with staff, and with players.


Gray began his coaching experience as a varsity assistant for the Miami Country Day School in 2012. He graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2010 with a bachelor's in Business Management, and earned his master's in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University in 2013.
